What is so special about Devon?
Think of Devon and you immediately think of the beauty and variety of it's countryside - its acres of farmland, its attractive cob and thatch cottages, its moorlands wreathed in mist, its high cliffs and welcoming beaches. Yet sadly Devon, like so much of our countryside, is something we can no longer take for granted.
Our threatened countryside
Today much of this is under threat. Proposed new settlements could destroy large areas of our countryside. Proposed road schemes will bring even more traffic. Poorly designed villa-style housing proliferates; destroying the character of rural Devon, yet there is still not enough affordable housing.
What can we do about it?
CPRE and its country branch in Devon are a voice for everyone who wants to save our countryside. We believe that much of the destruction is not necessary, but is simply the result of bad planning and shortsighted policies. Nationally and locally, we have many years of experience of campaigning to protect the countryside. But to meet the growing threat to the beauty and tranquility of our rural areas, we need your support.
How can you help?
To many of us, the countryside is a haven where we can escape the pressures of daily life. To others, it is a pleasant place to live and work. But soon it will be neither, unless we rally to its defence. If you agree that our countryside is worth protecting, join us.
